Why is Monza so special?

History could be made this weekend...

Hello and welcome to the new-look F1 Chronicle newsletter!

Gone is the boring RSS-feed of headlines, and in its place will be a human-written email from me, Jarrod, the editor here at F1 Chronicle.

The site has been going for five years now, and in that time we have had millions of visitors, but we have never spoken to people directly. So, we’re rolling out this upgrade today.

But don’t worry, we still don’t have anything to sell you, so this won’t be yet another email filling up your inbox wanting you to buy, buy, buy.

When we have something cool to share, we’ll send it. Simple.

If you like it, read it, if you don’t, don’t.

Deal?

Good.

This weekend we have the Italian Grand Prix at the Temple of Speed, and we could (and likely will) see a new record, should Max Verstappen do what Max Verstappen does - win.

I think this will be one of those moments in F1 that not everyone appreciates now, but will in years to come.

At the time, in 2013, I was bored to death when Sebastian Vettel set his record.

Likewise, with European races kicking off 11pm or midnight in my part of the world, I’ve decided to get a proper sleep and check the results on the Monday morning this season.

But looking back now, for us to live in an age where Vettel could win nine races in a row, and Verstappen potentially 10 or more, we’re incredibly lucky, as these history making moments don’t come along every day.

So here’s to embracing a historic season, even if it would be fun for neutral fans to see someone else on the top step at some point this year.

On that note, everyone here has been looking forward to this weekend, as Monza is one of those nostalgic tracks full of history, and love them or hate them, when Ferrari win there it is incredible to see and hear the Tifosi in full flight.

To help get you in the mood, you may like to brush up on some of the history of Monza, and hear Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly thoughts ahead of the weekend in our Monza Fast Facts article.

Sophia Richmond has been busy, giving us an in-depth analysis on the famous Parabolica, and compares the Monza circuit to some of the other iconic tracks on the F1 calendar.

She also explains why Monza is so special for Ferrari, and takes a walk down memory lane, revisiting some of their famous home victories.

Friday practice kicks off soon, and this weekend we also have the ‘Alternate Tyre Allocation’ to take into account, so we’ll make sure to update you with analysis from Pirelli’s Head of Motorsport Mario Isola throughout the weekend.

So on that note, what do you think, will we see a Perfect 10 for Max Verstappen this weekend?

Until next time,
